Dry leaves crackled under the paws of a cat, a big gray tabby to be exact. He was slightly older, yet still was strong. However, he had seen many births and deaths in his time. One would think, that seeing as cats can live for years and years, he would have not seen so many deaths. But it was a rough life in the Clans, especially now, as Leaf-fall came to a close. Soon the trees would be bare, and the first snows would set in.
But for now, everything was just quiet, and the air had a tinge of chilliness to it. The large cat, named Stormstar, was the leader of ThunderClan. He was the only one outside the camp right now, as his clanmates were trying to keep warm and toasty. Breathing in the cold air, he closed his big yellow eyes, and headed towards camp. Suddenly, a cold rush of air made him turn around, surprised by how freezing it was all of a sudden. Wind flew off the lake, invisible but carrying the air quickly with it. Stormstar headed down towards the large body of water, his tail lashing behind him.
Upon reaching the edge of the lake, he looked into its waters. At first, he could not see the shape that seemed to move within the water, until the lake grew calm for a moment. And then he saw it; a white cat's face in the water, its light green eyes blinking slowly and calmly as if it was alive. Stars flecked its pelt, and its eyes glowed. Suddenly, it leaped out of the water, with not a droplet of the liquid on its pelt. It was completely dry.
"Wh- Snowstar!" Stormstar looked surprised, ears perking. This cat was dead. Snowstar had died when Stormstar had been the deputy. Shaking his broad head, he looked curiously at the white cat and realized that he must be getting a message from StarClan.
"Calm down, Stormstar. I have a prophecy for you." The white cat leaned forwards, touching the living cat's forehead gently with his nose. "This is important. This will determine the fate of not only your Clan, but all of them." He closed his eyes, before speaking again.
"The Clans will battle, and heroes will fall, until one cat born from the roaring thunder will rise up and save us all. The code will bend and then break, and burn, until it vanishes, never to return." He opened his eyes, dipping his head to Stormstar and then, simply vanishing.
Stormstar woke up, his pelt feeling it was a thousand degrees despite the fact that it was cold outside. He bolted upright, walking to the entrance to his den and looking outside. The dawn patrol was just returning, and the cats of ThunderClan were walking around. Everything looked normal, until an elderly tortoiseshell cat dashed up to him, looking quite strong despite her age.
"Stormstar! You will be happy to know, Softflower gave birth to her kits this morning. Two kits, in fact- a tom and a she-cat!" She purred. This she-cat was Whitewhisker, medicine cat of ThunderClan.
Until one cat born from the roaring thunder will rise up and save us all... Stormstar was hardly paying attention, repeating the prophecy over and over in his head. Roaring thunder. ThunderClan. The cat would be from ThunderClan. He shook his head, snapping out of his thoughts and into the present.
"That's great!" He exclaimed. The big tabby knew that Blackleaf, the father of the kits, would be very, very proud. Stormstar dipped his head to Whitewhisker. "Are they both healthy?" He asked, twitching one ear.
"Yes- you should go visit them, Stormstar, they are the future of the Clan!" The old she-cat purred again, and then set off towards her own den. Stormstar walked towards the nursery, the prophecy still continuing to repeat itself over and over in his mind.
